Book Wrap- January 2021

 Book wrap up – January

I read a total of six books this month and woah! it was a month jam-packed with learnings and lessons. These books have surely changed me for better just like how books do.

Here are the books I read this month:

1. My Dark Vanessa

Synopsis: The story of My dark vanessa spins around a girl- Vanessa at two different time tangents: one where she is 15 years old and the other 17 years later [the present].

She came across a victim of abuse who is claiming the culprit to be Vanessa’s former teacher, first love and abuser. Vanessa who has manipulatively romanticized sexual abuse is adamant of not victimising herself.

She falls in love with her 32 years old English teacher at the age of 15 and ever since she is traumatised in love. The book imparts light on the psychological perspective of a victim who according to her is in love with her abuser

I wanted to begin the year with something quiet dark and thought-provoking, consequently, I picked My Dark Vanessa.

And indeed, it was.

 My stars: 5/5

Also Read: 5 lessons to learn from My Dark Vanessa

I would highly recommend My Dark Vanessa to those who are young and in love, a must read.

2. Tigers, not Daughters by Samantha Mabry

Synopsis: The dead sister, Anna, haunts her other three alive sisters in their house as ghost.

Honestly, I read this book because of its catchy title. The writing style alone is worth reading Tigers, not Daughters.

The characters and plot line are apt too.

The story has some lose ends and I hope they are meant are meant to be tied in the upcoming book two.

My Stars: 4/5

Read: how to read more books

3. After by Anna Todd

Synopsis: After story of Tessa and Hardin, two opposite yet the same person.

Well, my only reason for picking up this book was the movie After.

It’s a typical Wattpad book, once you dive in, you can’t stand being out of it.

My Stars: 3.5/5

4. After We Collided by Anna Todd

Synopsis: book two of after series, follows life of Tessa and Hardin after revelation of a massive lie.

Book one had me a little furious at Hardin but by the end of book two, I had the polar opposite opinion.

My stars: 3.5/5

5. Season for Fireflies by Rebecca Maizel

Synopsis: A year ago, Penny had a wonderful group of friends. Life happens and she is given a second chance of being herself again.

I grabbed Season for Fireflies with hope of a light & sweet romance read. It just didn’t work for me.

My Stars: 0.5/5

6. The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Life changing and impactful!

Best read of January 2021.

Me, the girl who believed mornings were not her cup of tea, now drinks tea at 5 AM. All credits to The Miracle Morning.

Apart from waking up early, The Miracle Morning covers a wider range of subjects regarding personal growth and development.

My stars: 5/5

Also read: why do Indian serials suck?

I hope these books will impart some meaning and add value to your life.
